Announcement for 2022

While we're still fondly remembering the summer of 2021, we're also excited for the great things to come in 2022. Summer 2021 was a big year for Camp New Heights, but it was also a different year. We obviously had a change of venue last summer which saw us being hosted by the wonderful Westmont College in Santa Barbara, CA. Last summer also had us under lots of Covid protocols to ensure the safety of our campers and we're happy to say that we served over 70 campers and did not have a single positive test for Covid. So the summer of 2021 looked a lot different from our normal camp summer. 2021 is now in the rearview mirror and we're happy to say that we're ready to soar into 2022.

For 2022 we will be back at the University of California, Santa Barbara. We will also have a large portion of the staff returning, including our director and master of dance, Montrell Britton. Despite some returns to normalcy, as a camp we intend to continue to evolve and provide our campers with the best summer camp experience possible. We are incredibly excited about some of the changes that we have made to camp.

While the schedule looks relatively the same as previous years, we have made some strategic changes to help campers adjust to camp life and to provide more recovery time during the week.

Upon arrival at camp, campers will have a lite schedule the first day that allows them to view the program and get a grasp of what their daily activities will look like during the duration of their stay. The second day will serve as a tutorial to experience camp at a reduced pace. This will allow the camper to understand the flow of each day before fully jumping into the program. This means that they will enter their first recovery day following their first full day of reduced effort work. This preparation will help them come into Thursday and Friday of their first week ready to go full strength. We have made this change based on the feedback of our campers and the suggestion that they wanted a more scaled up approach vs. jumping feet first in on day one.

The other schedule change we have made is how recovery day will look. We're working in coordination with the university to provide campers with the opportunity to get an extra hour of sleep on Wednesdays. Following breakfast, campers will proceed to a pool recovery with JT and then a body movement class with Montrell. These two assigned courses will allow campers to get the proper movement to help loosen up their muscles and help rid their bodies of the lactic acid they have built up over the previous two days. Campers will then proceed to lunch and we will then go to the beach the final two periods of the day. This switch up of the Wednesday schedule will not only allow more time and activities to help our campers recover, it will also make our time at the beach occur during the time when the morning cloud cover has receded.

Eliza Kingsford

We are beyond excited to enter the next phase of our evolution as we make our biggest change by collaborating with Eliza Kingsford. Eliza is a licensed psychotherapist trained in clinical psychology, Neuro Emotional Technique [NET], and Emotional Freedom Technique (EFT or tapping) methodologies. She has 15 years of experience working with adults and kids in understanding nutrition, weight loss, mental and emotional health, and everything in-between about living well. Eliza is a Rockstar of the wellness, nutrition, and weight loss space. Eliza knows the camp industry and has a tremendous track record of success; leaving her campers with a life changing experience that sticks with campers for a lifetime. She was a pioneer in the running of Wellspring Camps and her own venture of Empowered Wellness. She has trained hundreds of clinicians in this space and has sat on scientific advisory boards with the leading experts in this field. You can find her in numerous publications, podcasts and articles. Her book Brain-Powered Weight Loss addresses mind-body connection and why we eat.

Eliza is joining Camp New Heights as a partner who will help our campers dealing with mental health challenges surrounding weight loss, body image, exercise, etc... Eliza's services will be offered during registration as an add-on item for parents who are seeking a mental wellness component for their campers. Campers who sign up for her component of camp will enjoy twice weekly group video conference meetings and behavior coaching classes. In addition to Eliza's select services, Eliza is also redesigning our Sunday nutritional classes.

We are ecstatic to have Eliza joining us this summer and we are extremely fortunate to be able to provide campers with this additional service.

The building blocks of Camp New Heights remain the same, but we are confident that the changes we have made for 2022 will greatly benefit our campers and their success. We can't wait to have our campers entire UCSB in June and experience a life changing summer. Click HERE to register today!
